 SUMMER SLAM SERIES RESULTS

Summer Slam Series Points Update

Ben Graham Wednesday, 17 January 2007

Mark Robinson has extended his lead in the Summer Slam V8 Dirt Modified series after his second successive top three finish in Round Three at Sungold Milk Stadium, Warrnambool.

Robinson has a win and a runner-up finish to his name in the two completed rounds to date and currently leads the Summer Slam Series on 619 points. Whilst his main event results are impressive, it is his consistency in the heats which have resulted in his substantial points haul. Robinson has completed all of his heats to date and made the A-Dash on both occasions.

Sitting second and within striking distance as the Summer Slam Series heads to Lismore is the six-time Australian Champ Stuart Herne. The Lismore (NSW) resident backed up his win in Round Two with a solid fourth in Warrnambool, and is currently 40 points shy of Robinson on 579. Like Robinson, Herne has been a consistent performer throughout both rounds.

Impressive Victorian Steven Milthorpe moved inside the top three in Summer Slam Series standings following his runner-up finish in Round Three. With 548 points in the bag, Milthorpe is just 31 points behind Herne.

Scott Cannon jumped from ninth to fourth on the back of his strong Warrnambool performance. Cannon has 492 points to his name and is within striking distance of the top three. The lone South Australian contracted driver, Glenn Goonan, also moved up the ladder post Warrnambool, and currently lies in fifth place on 419 points.

Kevin Hopwood, who put in a mammoth drive from last to sixth in the Warrnambool Feature race, dropped back to 8th (from 3rd) in Series standings after being forced to sit out all three heats in Round Three with power steering issues. Hopwood currently has 329 points.

Lloyd Hobson (383 points) remained in sixth position overall after Round Three after sitting out his final heat and the main event in Round Three with engine woes. Tony Sneddon (371 points) dropped back to 7th after a trying Warrnambool round, whilst Rian Collier (302 points) moved inside the top ten for the first time after solid heat performances at Warrnambool saw the Lismore resident make the B-Dash.

Rounding out the top ten is Victorian driver Kevin Weekes, who on 300 points is just 2 points shy of Collier in ninth.

Tied for eleventh are Tim Morse & Murray Atkin (both 279), with Trevor Perry (250) and Tony Moore (103) rounding out the fourteen contracted drivers vying for overall series honours.

Next stop on the Summer Slam series schedule is Round Four, a two-night showdown this Australia Day long weekend (Jan 26 & 27) at the Lismore Speedway.
